Al Gore bummed me out

An Inconvenient Truth

I finally got around to watching "An Inconvenient Truth". I've been a believer in global warming for at least a decade, so I didn't feel the need to rush out and watch it. We get Sierra Club magazines. I read the evidence: Greenland is melting, permafrost is dissolving, coral reefs are receding. I've already made amendments to my habits: I take public transit or bike to work, shut down the shower while I soap up, recycle, eat whole foods (preferably locally grown), reduce my consumerism, buy used when possible, etcetera. I continue to adjust my lifestyle, I realize it isn't easy. It is necessary, though. My next car will be fully electric or at least a hybrid or bio diesel, until then I drive a fairly efficient Honda Civic (27 mpg).

The problem was that now that I've seen the movie, and heard all the data and projection all at once, it just made me sick. After watching that movie, I really felt despair for humanity. To see those projections happen within our lifetime would be awful. I started to wonder what more can I do? I know there is more I can do, but is it enough to offset the excess that I see in my community? I'd really like to know what YOU are doing or what you are willing to do. Please, someone, give me a reason to restore my faith in humanity. If you think we can and should change the course we are on, make a commitment to change.

i tried out the

i tried out the Calculate-Your-Impact site and came up with a Smaller-Than-Average impact. which makes me feel great. for a couple of minutes. and then i realise a couple things...

1) (even if the current picture IS extremely bleak) Actions Speak Louder Than Words. maybe others will decide to follow?
2) i can always do more
