Cruisin' on a Sunday afternoon

John on the canal boat tour

It was Sunday, and we'd learned the night before from Matthius that everything pretty much shuts down on Sundays. Museums were still open, though, so we pointed our compasses to the Van Gogh museum, stopping along the way for lunch. After a toastie and beer, we went in to see the exhibit.

Every time I see Van Gogh up close, I am astonished by the depth he managed to bring to his work through color, pattern and thickness of paint. Dan commented that it was a pretty modern building to house such works, and I agreed. Still, we enjoyed the experience and were glad to catch a glimpse of an artist who lived such a tragic life.

Afterward, we meandered over to one of the canal boat tours. It seemed like a relaxing thing to do on a Sunday afternoon. Indeed, we were motored around the inner canal rings for over an hour, getting little pieces of interesting information and snapping some great shots. The sun was warm, the people were out, and we received many salutations along the way. Following the tour, we stopped at an Indonesian restaurant for a scrumptious dinner outside as the sun slipped below the gables.
