DC Hides Its Children at the National Zoo

Orangutan at the DC Zoo

On our last day we decided to walk around Woodley Park and visit the zoo. We had to make it a quick trip because we needed to get on the Metro around mid day to schlep ourselves back to the airport. Woodley Park is beautiful, quite large, and equipped with a fitness trail that connects to Georgetown. I noted that DC seemed void of children and pets, but then we would arrive at a certain place and it would be jam-packed with them. Naturally you would expect to find them at a zoo, but it was almost as if they weren't allowed to be anywhere else! It was a beautiful zoo and we did get to see the Giant Panda Bears.

To conclude my tale of tourism, DC is filled with fascinating bits of American History. There simply weren't enough hours on our trip to take it all in. We did our best and saw quite a few of the more noteworthy ones. Overall, we found it difficult to find a good restaurant, but did manage to find Lebanese Teverna in Woodley Park quite to our liking. The streets are mad, go underground for quick transport anywhere in the city. Town names like Shady Grove, Foggy Bottom, Pentagon City and Friendship Heights had me breaking into silly songs all the day long. Museums and the zoo are free, which is contrary to what you would think in a city of bureaucracy, but I'm not complaining. Oh, and we found people in DC to be helpful and friendly, except in Georgetown.
