The Journey Onward
Visiting San Francisco was really fun, but we spent a lot of our time reliving our past there. It made me recognize that it isn't my town anymore, I don't live there, I need to let go of the past. I think it became apparent when we went to Trieste for coffee - it is the same charming café, but the coffee wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. Did it change or did I? Sorry, that is rhetorical, I've changed for sure.
The same thing happened in Sebastopol. We took the scenic route through Petaluma and Two Rock Valley to Freestone. We stopped in at the Wildflower bakery (a.k.a. Freestone bakery) and bought a couple of loaves to bring to Easter dinner. Okay, some things don't change - it's still run by the same group of women and still has the best bread, but they were busier than ever and had more varieties. We stopped by Andy's market, but it was closed to our dismay. Why were we doing this to ourselves? Those are all old connections. Why are we holding on so tight to what was instead of discovering what is?
We vowed that the rest of the trip would be for new discoveries. Reminiscing is fine, but we needed new experiences to fulfill the soul. So, with one last stop at Crissy field to watch the fog lift off the Golden Gate Bridge, we said our goodbyes to SF and drove down the coast to our new discovery - Moss Beach. After checking into the Seal Cove Inn, we strolled down to the beach and followed it a stretch to the foot of the Moss Beach Distillery where we sat by their fire, sipped our drinks, and watched the fog roll in. Cheers to new experiences!
