The Nonagenarian Tree
Our Cinqo de Mayo was overshadowed this year by Grandmother's 90th birthday. It isn't often that one gets to party with a nonagenarian and gather round the heart of a family. It was an informal family reunion comprising of all the kids, and the kid's kids, and the kid's kid's kids. That is a lot of people, many of whom I've never met before, but have heard about in conversation (especially with brother Dan, who seems to keep in touch with everyone).
It was nice getting to know some of my wife's extended family and talking story. I arrived feeling overwhelmed with trying to remember names and relations, but unlocked a trove of genealogical history and deep connection. I think that Uncle Gary said it best, "when all is said and done, you realize that family is the most important thing you have'. This sentiment was truly expressed by all those who came to wish Grandmother a happy 90th birthday. Cheers to that!
