Paddling Gig Harbor On a Gorgeous Day

Gig Harbor lighthouse with Mount Rainier

I hadn't been out of the house in tha last 24 hours, except for a short, moonlit walk after the feeding. Thanksgiving was excellent, but I was so preoccupied with enjoying the time with my family, getting lost in a book, working a puzzle with Oma, snoozing, relaxing, getting stuffed that, well... you get the drift. I was lazy.

The morning after Thanksgiving was absolutely perfect. It was a full moon and we're getting closer to the solstice, so a high tide was expected around 2'ish. I didn't need to get up early to meet slack tide, so I could be lazy that morning. I took the boat down to the Randall boat launch in Gig Harbor and set her afloat. I started by paddling up to Crescent Creek to see if there was any activity up there, but it wasn't much of anything. In fact, I couldn't tell you where the creek met the harbor so I turned the other direction. There were plenty of Cormorant as I made my way to the mouth of the harbor. It was sunny with a touch of atmospheric haze. Behind the lighthouse, I could make out the snow covered profile of Mount Rainier.

I sat for awhile, taking in the majesty of the world, my trance being broken by the glossy head of a Harbor Seal peaking at me from the surface of the water. Returning to the launch I waited for someone to float their sailboat and thought of what a great day it was and how lucky I was to experience it. I was able to thereby forgive myself for being sloth the day before.
