It happened as a divine coincidence that I would be between jobs the same week as my 6th wedding anniversary. Sometimes life hands you flowers instead of lemons. In this case it was a chance to kick off a glorious summer and visit the coast and family before I start something new and exciting!

You Can't Shop at the National Mall

On our second day in DC, Mel and I went to the National Mall to enjoy the Smithsonian Institute exhibits. One of the most glorious things about DC is that all museums are free to the public! The Smithsonian is huge, and it is entirely impossible to see it all in a day. In fact, I would say that if you went every day for a week, you still might not finish it. Mel wanted to see Julia Child's kitchen, but the American Heritage museum was under renovation. We realistically chose two museums - the National Air and Space Museum and the Hirschhorn Museum of Sculpture.
